Who is Leon Goretzka?
Leon Goretzka is a German football player who was born on February 6, 1995, in Bochum, Germany. He plays as a central midfielder in his team but sometimes, he can be spotted in the right mid-field as well.
Goretzka currently plays for Germany and Schalke 04 Football Club of the Bundesliga. He has represented other clubs like VfL Bochum in junior level football. He has won the Fritz Walter Medal in U-17 category in the year 2012.

Leon Christoph Goretzka was born on the 6th day of February 1995 to his parents, Mr and Mrs Konrad Goretzka, in Bochum, Germany. His ancestors were once migrants who left Poland for the Ruhr industrial powerhouse of Germany in the 19th century. One centre of this polish immigration was Bochum, Leon’s birth city.
Superstar Leon Goretzka was born into a middle-class family. His father, Konrad Goretzka, is one of the modern-day beneficiaries of the German industrial revolution. Konrad Goretzka worked as an automotive engineer and electrical engineer for Opel. Leon learned a lot from his dad during his childhood days. He still gives credits his father for his leadership skills.
Despite having a huge fatherly impact, Leon’s mum played a major role in raising her son in a Catholic way. Apart from friends, Leon, to date, still has his mum as his best companion. National Team Experience of Leon Goretzka
In a friendly against Northern Ireland on 15 October 2010: Goretzka made his Germany national U-16 football team debut., scoring once in the 3-2 victory. In a 4-0 victory over Turkey, he made his debut for the German national U-17 football team on 24 August 2011. He captained the Germany national U-17 football team at the 2012 UEFA European Under-17 Championship in Slovenia in May 2012 and led the team all the way to the final against the Netherlands.
Goretzka scored the lead goal in the match, taking the score to 1-0; his goal was countered in stoppage time, taking the score to 1- 1 ; the Netherlands won the penalty shoot-out. In a 0-0 draw against France on S August 2013, he made his U-21 debut for the German national football team under Horst Hrubesch. The Polish national team contacted Goretzka, but he rejected the offer since he does not have any Polish heritage.
Germany's manager, Joachim Low, included Goretzka in the 30-man preliminary squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup on 8 May 2014. His debut came in a 0-0 draw against Poland on 13 May 2014. Germany's match against Poland, in which Goretzka suffered a muscle injury, led to his removal from the team's training camp and final squad for the 2014 World Cup.
Goretzka was named to the Germany squad for the Confederations Cup in Russia in May. In Germany's opening match for the tournament, he scored his first international goal in a 3-2 win over Australia. Goretzka scored twice against Mexico in the Semifinals. Goretzka was the joint top scorer in the competition with Timo Werner and Lars Stindl with three goals. In the final in Saint Petersburg, Germany defeated Chile to win the competition.
Goretzka was included in Germany's final 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on 4 June 201S. In the last match of the group stage on 27 June, he made his World Cup debut in a 2-0 defeat to South Korea, as his side was knocked out for the first time since 1938. His selection to the squad for the UEFA Euro 2020 was made on 19 May 2021. Against Hungary, he scored in the 2-2 draw that ended the group stage.
