Anthony Gordon: Chelsea prepared to pay up to £60m for Everton forward

Chelsea are now prepared to pay up to £60m for Everton forward Anthony Gordon, who wants to move to Stamford Bridge.

Everton's position this summer has been the player is not for sale. The £60m fee being prepared is the total value of a potential deal including add ons.

Earlier this month, Everton rejected Chelsea's initial bid of around £40m-£45m for the forward. Conversations between the two clubs have been ongoing, however, and the London club are now willing to increase their offer.

A new contract at Goodison Park remains on the table for Gordon, whose current Everton deal expires in June 2025.

Everton boss Frank Lampard left Gordon on the bench for Tuesday's Carabao Cup second-round victory at Fleetwood Town.

Sky Sports News understand there has been no change in the situation with Chelsea and no new formal bid has been made at this point.

It's expected a formal bid will arrive from Chelsea anytime now and the player has made it clear to Everton he would like to move to London.

Speaking after the game, Lampard told reporters: "Everyone knows there's interest from Chelsea but he's our player, simple as that."

When asked if reports suggesting Gordon has asked to leave Goodison Park were true, Lampard said: " I'm never going go into conversations between me and Anthony have. We've got a good relationship I won't even go there."

Lampard needs to add forward options to his squad before the transfer window ends and a potential deal would raise the finances to make that happen.

Tottenham wanted to sign the England U21 international in a package deal with Richarlison for a combined £80m earlier in the summer but were not successful. Newcastle also made an approach, but did not submit a formal bid.

Thomas Tuchel's side have spent a league-topping £176.5m on new signings this summer, primarily on three first-team signings: Marc Cucurella (£63m), Raheem Sterling (£47.5m) and Kalidou Koulibaly (£34m).

Gordon has started all three of Everton's Premier League games so far this season, playing at times as a false No 9 in the absence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin as the striker recovers from a knee injury.

The 21-year-old has made 52 Premier League appearances so far for Everton, scoring four goals. It was his free-kick which led to Jarrad Branthwaite scoring an equaliser against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in December last year.
